Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has accused ex-Indian skipper, Virat Kohli of fake fielding during a recent Ban vs Ind encounter and is likely to lodge a complaint officially.
The BCB is unhappy over the loss in a nailbiting encounter and will raise the issue with the International Cricket Council (ICC). The men in blue managed to win by five runs in a rain-hit encounter in Adelaide, destroying all hopes of Bangladesh qualifying for the semifinal.
It would have been the first time in the history of the T20 World Cup 2022 that Bangladesh would have reached the semifinal, but some incidents killed all the hopes, which are termed as cheating by the BCB and the fans.
The vice-skipper Nurul Hasan also addresses the issue, saying that the onfield umpires had missed a “fake throw” by Kohli that could have tied the match.
“It could have been a five-run penalty,” he told reporters. “That also could have gone our way, but unfortunately… that didn’t materialise.”
“It could have been a five-run penalty. That also could have gone our way, but unfortunately… that didn’t materialise,” he told reporters after the match.
Notably, the incident took place in the seventh over of Bangladesh’s innings, when Liton Das played the ball towards the deep off-side field off Axar Patel. As India’s Arshdeep Singh threw the ball back, Kohli, standing at point, pretended a throw as the ball whistled past him.
Umpires Marais Erasmus and Chris Brown didn’t take any action, despite the fact that Liton and non-striking batsman Najmul Hossain pointed it out, a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official told AFP.
BCB Cricket Operations chief Jalal Younis said,
“We will discuss the issues wherever we get a chance to discuss them. It’s not a protest because there is no benefit of doing it now.”
A source on Twitter added,
“Reports state Bangladesh Cricket Board is to raise issues around the umpiring during their match against India. BCB is unhappy that umpires took no action against Virat Kohli for fake fielding & ignored Shakib Al Hasan’s request to delay the restart due to a wet outfield.”
