The Team of the Tournament for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 has been finalized and on-screened as the marquee event ended on Sunday with a thrilling contest between England and Pakistan.
The men in green’s ride throughout the tournament have nothing less than a roller coaster. Losing to India and Zimbabwe in the first two games of the Super 12 stage and then ending up qualifying for the semifinal was something very unbelievable to witness.
Throughout their World Cup 2022 campaign, they have dug out the potential match-winners, and it would not at all be wrong to name Shadab Khan and Shaheen Shah Afridi among them.
While all-rounder Khan has been proving his worth thoroughly, Shaheen faced hard luck in the first three games of the Group Stage. He could only amass a single wicket against the Netherlands, but following the forthcoming performances, he portrayed a star-studded showcase to become the joint-highest wicket-taker for Pakistan along with Shadab.
The two now have 11 wickets to their name. While Shadab also has some brilliant performances with the bat. As the team of the tournament has been announced, both, with the courtesy of their brilliant performances, have made it into the splendid line-up.
While naming Shadab, the forum says,
“Pakistan’s spin-bowling all-rounder was superb in all facets of the game. In the field, he set the standard for this team, and with the bat, he scored fast down the order, with his 98 runs coming at a strike rate of 168.96.
But it was with the ball where Shadab Khan truly excelled. He took 11 wickets at an average of 15, with his economy rate of 6.34 keeping things tight for Pakistan through the middle overs.”
Naming injured Shaheen in the line-up, T20 World Cup official site was quoted as saying,
“Fitness concerns saw Shaheen Shah Afridi ease himself into the tournament, and a setback in the final forced him to be unable to bowl his final two overs of the competition in unfortunate circumstances. But the Pakistan strike bowler stepped up when his team needed him to as the tournament got to its crunch point.
His removal of Finn Allen set the tone in a brilliant opening spell against New Zealand in the semi-final, and a trademark inswinger did for Alex Hales in the first over of the final. There is no bowler in the world right now that you’d rather have to take that new ball in a T20 International.”
World Cup 2022: The complete of the Team of the Tournament looks like:
Alex Hales, Jos Buttler, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Glenn Philips, Sikandar Raza, Shadab Khan, Sam Curran, Anrich Nortje, Mark Wood, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Hardik Pandya (12th man).
