Shan Masood to lead team versus India in T20 match

Pakistani opener Shan Masood is all set to lead Derbyshire in the team match against India. The in-form batter will captain the side in a T20 match versus the men in blue ahead of their series against England.

Notably, Derby will host the game scheduled for July 1. Indian squad in the one-off T20 versus Derbyshire will not include the players part of the Test panel as they will participate last Test match of the series against England, which was postponed due to COVID last year.

It is pertinent to mention here that Ind vs Eng Test match will take place between 1-5 July at Edgbaston Cricket Ground. India will also play a three-match ODI series and as many T20Is versus England after winding up the final Test of the last year’s series.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is yet to name the squad for the one-off Test, whereas, team India’s squad is as follows:

Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Hanuma Vihari, Rishabh Pant (wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Prasidh Krishna, Srikar Bharat (wk)

Factually, both teams will play under the leadership of a different captain than what was last year. Team India played under Virat Kohli, whereas England were led by Joe Root however, after Kohli’s resignation as a skipper, the duties were handed over to Rohit Sharma. On the other hand, Ben Stokes was named the Test skipper ahead of the series against New Zealand.

As far as Shan is concerned, he has been in spectacular form for Derbyshire in the County Championship 2022. The Pakistani cricketer is now leading the team in the Vitality T20 Blast.
