Pak vs Ind: No-ball, free-hit, byes, stumping – all the drama in last over thriller

Pak vs Ind: The Super 12 encounter of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 between Pakistan vs India took place at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Sunday. Both teams opened their World Cup campaigns against each other, and it turned out to be just more than a game.

Earlier in the day, Pakistani openers struggled to score runs. After Babar Azam had to bid goodbye on a duck, Mohammad Rizwan, too, walked back after scoring four from 12 balls. Later, Shan Masood and Iftikhar Ahmed settled things for them with their brilliant fifties. In the end, Shaheen Shah Afridi’s majestic boundaries let them compile a target of 160 runs for Rohit Sharma and co to win.

Although 160 looks like a low figure in front of a team like India, they barely managed it. Pakistan plucked three wickets in the powerplay and managed another to put them under pressure. Slowly going, India settled after Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya built up a partnership of 100 from 75 balls and continued.

After Pandya’s wicket, Dinesh Karthik took charge of the duties. Things were equally divided between the two, but the Pakistani bowlers messed up in the dead overs. Apart from conceding a few boundaries, the last over thrilled cost them the game, which, for some, was the unfair means to win.

A no-ball in Mohammad Nawaz’s final over, which saw him producing an above-waist ball, let Kohli opt for a six. Kohli wanted that no-balls free-hit to produce results but was cleaned bowl. However, non-striker end Dinesh Karthik was ready to run, and the on-pitch pair took three runs.

The experts question if a player is allowed for byes after being bowled on a free-hit whereas, whereas another portion of fanatics say that the only way to get a batter out on a free hit is the runout. A huge portion of the followers says the free-hit ball must have been called a dead bowl since it hit the stumps. The umpires disagreed and called for three byes to the Indian score.
