All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been ruled out from Asia Cup 2022 following his knee injury. As his right knee’s suffering ends his stint with the team in the all-important event, Axar Patel is set to replace as a like-for-like replacement.
Patel, who was named as a standby player earlier, is a bowling all-rounder, having exposure to six Tests, 44 ODIs, and 25 T20Is. While donning the Indian jersey in the mentioned number of games, he has plucked 39, 53, and 21, respectively alongside 197, 273, and 147 runs.
In a press conference, the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) mentioned that Jadeja’s last injury he sustained during Ind vs WI ODI series was not that severe. Since India are scheduled to play a home series against Australia and South Africa before starting their T20 World Cup 2022 venture in Australia, they hope the all-rounder quickly recovers.
Jadeja was India’s vital cog in both of the Group stage games versus Pakistan and Hong Kong, respectively. Axar, the like-for-like replacement of Jadeja, owns less experience than the ruled-out player. It is now to see how well he will fit himself in the senior player’s boots.
India are scheduled to lock horns with Pakistan on Sunday since the Asia Cup 2022 Super 4 stage begins on 3rd September. Pakistan’s qualification in the next round depends on their ongoing Grup Stage match against Hong Kong.
The winning team will be qualified for the last vacant spot in the Super 4 as Afghanistan, India, and Sri Lanka, respectively, qualified. Undoubtedly, men in green’s polished chances to be there are certainly making Pak vs Ind possible for the second time in Asia Cup 2022.
Since Jadeja is no more team’s part, team India might deal with a hefty blow. They already missed the services of Jasprit Bumrah, who was earlier ruled out from the squad.
