In a resounding display of dominance, India reaffirmed their cricketing supremacy by clinching the top spot in the World Test Championship 2023-25 points table. With an outstanding record of six wins out of nine tests, the Indian cricket team showcased their prowess and cemented their position at the pinnacle of Test cricket.
Meanwhile, England found themselves languishing in the eighth position, having secured only three wins out of the ten matches they played in the championship. Their lackluster performance culminated in a disappointing defeat in the five-match Test series against India, where they could manage to win only the series opener.
The final showdown between India and England took place at the picturesque HPCA Stadium, where England, after winning the toss, elected to bat first. Despite a valiant effort from Zak Crawley, who scored a commendable 79 runs, England could only muster a total of 218 runs before succumbing to the relentless bowling attack led by Kuldeep Yadav, who claimed five wickets for 72 runs, and Ravichandran Ashwin, who contributed with figures of 4/51.
India, buoyed by their bowlers’ stellar performance, seized control of the match by overpowering England with a commanding first-innings total of 477 runs. Shubman Gill’s brilliant century (110) and Rohit Sharma’s steady contribution (103) laid the foundation for India’s dominance, supported by half-centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sarfaraz Khan, and Devdutt Padikkal.
Despite a spirited effort from England’s captain, Joe Root, who scored 84 runs in the second innings, their batting lineup faltered, managing to add only 195 runs. Once again, Ravichandran Ashwin emerged as the tormentor-in-chief, clinching five wickets and restricting England’s innings.
With a combined total of 413 runs from both innings, England fell short, enabling India to clinch victory by an innings and 64 runs. This defeat marked England’s first series loss under the captaincy of Ben Stokes, underscoring the magnitude of India’s dominance in the world of Test cricket.
