India Under-19 beat New Zealand Under-19 by 44 runs (D/L method)
So! We have the quarter-final lineups almost ready. India take on Australia, Pakistan meet Afghanistan, West Indies meet either New Zealand or Japan (well, only a mathematical miracle will see that) while Bangladesh await the winner of South Africa and the United Arab Emirates. Hopefully, you enjoyed our coverage and will join us when the quarters arrive. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
Indian skipper, Priyam Garg says that he is very happy with the performance of his team and wants to continue with the same. Adds that they have played in all conditions and learnt to handle the pressure. Tells that Sri Lanka's game was tough and this one was a close fight. On facing Australia, Garg says that every game is important and tough from here onward.
New Zealand's skipper, Jesse Tashkoff says that they knew it was going to be a good wicket. Credits India for posting that total. Adds that the boys at the top did a great job. Mentions that there are a lot of positives to take from this match and also from the last game against Sri Lanka. Smiles and says that the match between Sri Lanka and Japan will be interesting and they will be following it closely. Feels that if they manage to get to the next round, facing West Indies will be a great match.
RAVI BISHNOI IS THE MAN OF THE MATCH AGAIN! Says that it was a good surface to bowl on although it wasn't turning much. Shares that he concentrated on bowling wicket-to-wicket line. Admits that New Zealand got off to a good start but he stuck to his basics and bowled wicket-to-wicket. Feels that the total was good as their batsmen batted superbly. Tells that like any other leg spinner, he idolizes Shane Warne and also Anil Kumble Sir. Mentions that they are happy and excited to face Australia in the next match.
Earlier, India were going strong after the Kiwis elected to bowl, getting to 100 in 20 overs before rain changed the complexion of the game. It got shortened, which perhaps gave the Black Caps a chance of winning but India were just too good. Please stay tuned for the presentation...
Ravi Bishnoi was touted as the threatening bowler but it was Atharva Ankolekar who did the majority of the damage. After the opening wicket was taken, Atharva ran through the middle order, breaking the opposite team's backbone. Thereafter the game was played for mere formality. The spinners created most of the ruckus, picking up 7/58 in 10 overs between them. Excuse me - is the World Cup really being played in South Africa?
The Black Caps did offer a semblance of a fight, as they looked to make a fist of the run chase. The openers added 51 in 5 overs, which is what Powerplay 1 was all about. But once the first wicket fell, they started falling back in the chase. Fergus Lellman provided some sort of an impetus but his dismissal just signalled the end of the chase.
Another comprehensive win for India. They now top the group and meet Australia in the quarter-final on Tuesday. Once the DLS target was revised to 192, it looked highly unlikely that the Kiwis will topple it and it stayed that way.

OUT! Direct hit at the non-striker's end and it's curtains for New Zealand. Hancock makes all sorts of movement inside the crease before the bowler has delivered but that doesn't put off Tyagi. He sticks to his guns and arrows in a length ball on middle. David forces it down towards mid off and attempts for a run this time as it's the last ball. But before he could reach the other end, Priyam Garg has fired in a direct hit to find him short. INDIA WIN BY 44 RUNS (DLS METHOD)!

Play and a miss again. Too quick for the number 11 batsman. Tyagi delivers it from wide of the crease and spears in a very full ball close to off, William tries to defend it but is beaten on the inside edge. That wasn't far away from the stumps.

Too full in length and outside off, O'Rourke is beaten for pace as he attempts to dig it out.
William O'Rourke is the last batsman in the middle.

OUT! The middle stump goes for a walk! A delightful scene for a fast bowler. Tyagi delivers a pinpoint yorker, right at the base of the middle stump, Ashok backs away and then tries to dig it out but misses. It goes on to uproot the middle stump and the end is nigh for the Kiwis!

Ashok has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.

Direct hit would have found Ashok short! A googly landing full around off, Ashok drags his shot off the inside half to deep mid-wicket and sets off for the second run. The fielder misses his shy at the striker's end and Ashok survives. The keeper also didn't collect the ball cleanly otherwise it could still have been a chance.

OUT! A 4-wicket haul for Bishnoi but this has to be the fielder's wicket. WHAT A CATCH! One for the highlight reel and definitely a contender for one of the best catches in this tournament so far. Tossed up ball on middle, fuller in length, Wheeler-Greenall goes for the slog sweep after stepping down the track but gets more height than elevation. Akash Singh has gone airborne in the deep mid-wicket region and does really well to catch it first and then keep it in his grasp as he lands. Effectively done. The Indians are jubilant, they can smell victory now.
17.5

Takes a chance and manages to clear the infield at cover-point. Wheeler-Greenall with a calculative risk as he reverse sweeps a full delivery from around leg. Gets enough connects to pump it over the fielders in that region and they take a couple of runs.

The umpire quickly checks whether it's stumping or bowled and the replays confirm that there was no involvement of the keeper.

Wheeler-Greenall takes the risk and gets three runs for it. A length ball outside off, Beckham jumps across the stumps for the paddle shot. He doesn't get it from the middle but still manages to lift it over short fine leg. The fielder manages to stop it before the rope. There is a confusion over the third run but since the throw is at the striker's end, it's completed with ease. Wheeler-Greenall there was late in taking off for the third and it could have been interesting had the throw come to the bowler's end.

That prompts an LBW appeal but for some reason, the umpire does not raise his finger. Now, the non-striker is wanting a single and is halfway down the track, only to be sent back. Yet another play and a miss. Mariu is struggling here. He goes chasing after a good length delivery outside off and misses. No footwork and that's the prime reason for his struggle.

This one hardly carries to the keeper. A length ball in the channel outside off, Mariu allows it through.
Welcome back for the run chase! The players are quickly back on the field. Here are the revised playing conditions - P1 is 1-5 overs, P2 is 6-19 overs and P3 is 20-23 overs! 3 bowlers can bowl a maximum of 5 overs while two bowlers can bowl a maximum of 4 overs. Remember, to constitute a game, India will have to bowl 20 overs. The artificial lights are switched on as it's very gloomy out there. Hopefully, there won't be any more rain. Rhys Mariu and Ollie White are the Kiwi openers. Kartik Tyagi to open the attack for India. He is fresh from a thumping performance against Japan where he hunted down three wickets. Here we go, a slip in place...
We have the final DLS target - 192 IN 23 OVERS! Boy, that is as good as gone, on this sticky wicket. All the best, New Zealand. Stay tuned for the run chase.
Yashasvi Jaiswal says that he is very happy with his performance but feels he can do better for his team. Stresses on the importance of staying in the middle. Tells that they had a good preparation in Bengaluru and Rahul Dravid was there who advised them about the conditions they will encounter in South Africa. Is confident of defending this total as they have a good bowling attack.
The story has been just about two technically strong batsmen - Yashasvi Jaiswal and Divyaansh Saxena who treated the crowd to an exhibition of some of the most beautiful cover drives one would ever see. India were going strong at 103/0 in 21 overs when all of a sudden, the heavens opened up and the match got shortened. The Kiwis started off in a disciplined fashion for the first few overs but once the cover drives started coming in, they started running for cover. Here is one of the openers talking to Rohan Gavaskar.
So, after 6 hours and 15 minutes, the first innings of the game ends. India did not attempt for big shots at all in these 2 overs, probably aiming to keep wickets in hand so that New Zealand get a bigger DLS target. It could also mean that the bowling is pumped up and confident that they can defend whatever score they have to.

All set, then! The boys concerned are out in the centre. The groundsmen have done a commendable job to get the playing conditions ready in spite of all the torrential rain. Adithya Ashok to bowl one of the remaining two overs. A maximum of 5 fielders are allowed outside the ring now. Divyaansh Saxena on strike...
1605 local (1405 GMT) - The weather has cleared up ever so slightly and the COVERS ARE OFF! This match has been further reduced to 23-overs-per-side. So, India will come out to bat for two more overs.
1527 local (1327 GMT) - Dear me, drops of rain on the lens of the camera and we are waiting with bated breath for the official word now. The players are seen warming up near the boundary line and a few are waiting for the umpires to call them back on the field. But we are afraid to inform you that the COVERS ARE BACK ON! The long frustrating wait continues and we are going to lose more overs. Stay with us for latest updates...
We are looking to have a 3.30 pm local resumption. The Powerplays have been broken down to (1-6), (7-22) and (23-27). 2 bowlers can bowl a maximum of 6 overs while 3 can bowl a maximum of 5 each.
1500 local (1300 GMT) - BRILLIANT NEWS! The rain has gone, the clouds have cleared up and we are ready to have a game! We are informed that it will be a 27-overs-a-side match. Fantastic work by the groundstaff to make the impossible seem possible.
1400 local (1200 GMT) - Inspection time! Ohh.. forget it. The heavens have opened up again. It is raining very heavily and all thoughts of a resumption are pegged back once again. The good news, as we have always been saying, is that the wind is pretty heavy - so the rain which comes quickly subsides. But the damage which it causes is really bad. Fingers crossed and we wait...
1330 local (1130 GMT) - Wow. By the looks of it, we could have a game resumption. The umpires are going to have an inspection at 2 pm local. The outfield is very wet and the skies are overcast too. The forecast is not looking great either. Fingers crossed.
1230 local (1030 GMT) - Slightly good news in terms of rain. It has stopped. But the outfield has been heavily damaged. The groundstaff is doing its work, but some sunshine will be needed. Fingers crossed.
1130 local (0930 GMT) - It has now started to rain. It is heavy but with the wind blowing across, this should not last long.
The players are going off the field. The reason they are going off is because a stroke of lightning has just been seen. Never safe to be playing in an open area. The dark clouds have come in full force and the COVERS ARE BEING BROUGHT ON, as a precaution. The good thing is, the wind is blowing strongly, so the clouds could be expected to be blown away. Stay tuned for updates.

The anthems are done and we ready for Game 20 to get underway. Yashasvi Jaiswal amd Divyaansh Saxena to open for the Indians. David Hancock to start off proceedings against Jasiwal. Here we go...
The players walk out to the middle for the national anthems. The Kiwi one first.
New Zealand U19 (Playing XI) - Rhys Mariu, Ollie White, Fergus Lellman, Nicholas Lidstone, Jesse Tashkoff(C), Beckham Wheeler-Greenall, Ben Pomare(WK), Hayden Dickson, Adithya Ashok, David Hancock and William O'Rourke.
India U19 (Playing XI) - Yashasvi Jaiswal, Divyaansh Saxena, Tilak Varma, Priyam Garg(C), Dhruv Jurel(WK), Siddhesh Veer, Atharva Ankolekar, Ravi Bishnoi, Sushant Mishra, Kartik Tyagi and Akash Singh.
PITCH REPORT - Dominic Cork feels that the track looks a good pitch to bat on. JP Duminy observes there is not a lot of grass on the wicket and advises the bowlers to hit the stumps and vary their pace as much as their can. Predicts a high-scoring game.
Indian captain, Priyam Garg seems to be happy with the decision to bat first. Says that the entire squad is strong and they are just looking to rotate the players.
The Kiwi skipper, Jesse Tashkoff, feels that it is a beautiful batting wicket and whatever juice might be there, could be for the first 15-20 minutes. Understands that India have a solid side and the Black Caps have to be at their best.
Just a bit of a statistic - India have won 6 out of 6 encounters against New Zealand in Under-19 World Cups!
TOSS - New Zealand have won the toss and elected to chase.
Time for match number 20 of the Under-19 World Cup and it is India vs New Zealand at Bloemfontein. This is the third Ind-NZ encounter today after the NZ A - Ind A and the NZ-Ind clashes earlier in the day. This is a dead rubber, with both teams qualified for the next stage, but the top spot is up for grabs. Hello and a warm welcome.
