Durban's Super Giants beat Joburg Super Kings by 69 runs
Right then that's it from Qualifier 2 of the SA20 2024. The final of SA20 2024 will be a repeat of Qualifier 1 between Durban Super Giants and Sunrisers Eastern Cape on 10th February at 8 pm IST (2.30 pm GMT). You can join us an hour early for the build-up. Till then cheers!
Heinrich Klaasen is the player of the match and he says it was tough to start the innings and he waited for the free balls and they eventually came later in the innings. Adds that their bowlers bowled well right at the top and taking 3 wickets in the powerplay put them in front in the game. Mentions that the late assault has been working for him as he tries to capitalize late in the innings and that seems to be working for him.
The skipper of Durban's Super Giants Keshav Maharaj says Bhanuka Rajapaksa set up a platform and Heinrich Klaasen and Wiaan Mulder gave that finishing touch that got us a really good total. Adds that Wiaan Mulder has come good in leaps and bounces and after years of hard work he is getting is due credit. Closes by saying that bowling was good too and they bowlers executed the plans to a great effect.
The skipper of Joburg Super Kings Faf du Plessis says it was a brilliant bit of batting from Durban's Super Giants and giving away more than 100 in the last 10 overs cost them the game. Credits Heinrich Klaasen for the fireworks and says he has done it all along his career and the best team has progressed to the final. Adds that all in all they failed to put up performances to their capabilities. He closes by saying that he will be backing Sunrisers in the final as they have played different situations better.
Stay tuned for the presentation ...
Earlier in the innings, we saw that Heinrich Klaasen and Wiaan Mulder took the attack to the bowlers and troubled them a lot. Bhanuka Rajapaksa had also done that but he couldn't take his innings deep. We saw a bit of a battle between Nandre Burger and Heinrich Klaasen which was eventually won by Nandre as he sent Klaasen back to the pavilion. Nandre and Doug were the pick of the bowlers for their 2 wickets each.
To be honest, there is not much to write about the Joburg Super Kings batters. They were three down inside the powerplay. Moeen Ali and Reeza Hendricks did well for a while and steadied the ship, but once Moeen Ali fell, wickets kept on tumbling for them and there was no turning back. Donovan Ferreira tried his bit to put up a fight of some short but the target proved out to be a bit too many for him and Joburg Super Kings.
Durban's Super Giants bowlers were excellent. They spat fire from the word go and picked three wickets inside the powerplay. They managed to pick a wicket whenever a good partnership was brewing and never let the Joburg Super Kings batters settle in the game. Junior Dala picked up four wickets but was a bit expensive. Dwaine Pretorius and Naveen-ul-Haq picked up two whilst Reece Topley and Wiaan Mulder chipped in with one.
Durban's Super Giants have secured a place in the finals with a commanding 69 runs! Their performance was impressive, both in batting and bowling, leading them to a comprehensive win. On the other hand, Joburg Super Kings will be disappointed with their performance.
