The losing skipper of Comilla Victorians Litton Das says this was a good game but they need to bat better. Adds that this was a difficult wicket to bat on as the wicket kept low and they were ahead of the game till the 16th over but Azmatullah Omarzai and Mohammad Nabi batted well for Rangpur Riders. Closes by saying this is a long tournament and they still have time to review such a performance and they'll come back nicely.
Azmatullah Omarzai is the player of the match and says that he is really happy to contribute to the winning cause. Says that the wicket was too slow and they aimed at 150 as the ball was coming slow but he and Nabi got hold of a few and managed to post over 160. Mentions that he is delighted that the Riders management is giving him opportunities to express himself.
Stay tuned for the presentation...
Earlier in the day after electing to bat first, Rangpur Riders managed to post 1655 on board thanks to the brilliance of Azmatullah Omarzai who scored 36 off just 20. Babar Azam and Fazle Mahmud too scored into their mid-30s but they were going run-a-ball. Azmatullah Omarzai, Mohammad Nabi and Nurul Hasan gave a much-needed injection of pace right at the end and helped the side post a formidable total. Raymon Reifer took a couple while Mustafizur Rahman, Khushdil Shah and Tanvir Islam got a wicket each as well.
The bowlers for Comilla Victorians set the tone early on with tight lines and lengths. The side kept things quiet even when they were not able to pick wickets which proved key for them. Azmatullah Omarzai was simply outstanding picking up a couple. While others chipped in with wickets as well. Mahedi Hasan though had only 1 over as he was taken to the cleaners by Towhid Hridoy in that and leaked 17.
Chasing down a tricky total, the Comilla Victorians started off in the worst possible manner as they lost skipper Litton Das in the first over. Mohammad Rizwan and Mahidul Islam Ankon then built up a partnership of 59 runs for the second wicket but they lacked the intent needed to take the innings ahead and were going at a walking pace. Mohammad Rizwan perished soon after the drinks break after a nothing innings of 17 in 21 deliveries. Towhid Hridoy and Mahedi Hasan did put up a good partnership of 53 runs with a positive intent but it wasn't enough as they eventually faltered by 8 runs. Mahidul Islam Ankon played a lone hand of 63 runs but wasn't provided enough support. Jaker Ali did land some lusty blows but it only came as a consolation for the side.
Rangpur Riders wins this by 8 runs and are now seated above Comilla Victorians on the table.
