In the ongoing rescheduled fifth Test match between England and India, the toe-crushing bowler Jasprit Bumrah has broken the previous record of West Indies’ great, Brian Lara. Bumrah is now the cricketer with most runs in an over in Test cricket smashing 35 to Stuart Broad.
England’s veteran pacer was handed unwanted runs while bowling the 84th over of the first inning of the match. Bumrah made sure to make India’s first inning worth remembering giving delightful sights to watch out for.
The unforgettable over saw four fours and two sixes, one of them coming off a no-ball, combining 29 runs. As if it was not enough to frustrate the bowler, the rest five runs came from wide balls and a single in the end in an attempt to avoid leaking runs.
35 runs off the Stuart Broad over. And of all people, it's Jasprit Bumrah who was the batsman ???

Following the magnificent over for the tailender, Bumrah has surpassed 19-year old record of Lara, who was the player to amass most runs in an over in Test Cricket until the Indian youngster took the courage to break it. Notably, Lara punished South African bowler Robin Peterson for 28 runs from six balls.
The record was equalled by South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj and Australia’s George Bailey who also had scored 28 runs in an over in the longest format once.
The list later included Shahid Khan Afridi, the explosive Pakistani all-rounder, who smacked 27 runs to Indian leggie, Harbhajan Singh. Afridi’s record is now fifth on the list followed by Bumrah’s entry.
As far as the fifth Test is concerned, India’s first inning saw the batters adding 416 despite losing five early wickets. The brilliant centuries from Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja settled things for India, as they are looking to win the first Test match in England since 2007.
In the second inning getting underway on Day 2, the match was rain-delayed following the cloud burst at Birmingham. England, in their first inning, could total 60 on the loss of three wickets before the day was washed.
It must be noted the going-on Test is the residue of last year’s series, which was cancelled after the completion of the fourth match a week before IPL. Ind vs Eng series will now see three T20Is, and as many ODIs respectively, starting from 7th July.
