India were out of service of head coach Rahul Dravid who was tested COVID positive just before the team’s departure to the UAE for the Asia Cup 2022. Although there are chances that he would reunite with the squad on testing COVID negative, but keeping zero gap for risk, the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) has named VVX Laxman as interim head coach for the event.
Laxman has reached the UAE directly from Harare alongside vice-captain KL Rahul and the players who were part of the India vs Zimbabwe series. The rest of the squad also arrived at the destination on August 24th, gearing up to tackle the rest of the teams in Asia Cup 2022.
VVX Laxman earlier has experienced coaching twice. At first, he was named the coach for India’s limited-over tour to Ireland. His recent task to carry on the duties was against Zimbabwe.
India will kick-start their Asia Cup 2022 campaign against Pakistan on August 28th, Sunday, at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. It will be their first mega event since Rohit Sharma’s appointment as the team’s captain for all three formats. It will act as captaincy reherseal for the next assignment, T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.
Rohit had fulfilled Kohli’s skipper space in Asia Cup 2018, winning the grand finale vs Bangladesh.
