Delhi Capitals’ all-rounder Mitchell Marsh’s IPL 2024 campaign has officially come to an end. The Australian star, who played in the first four matches for the Capitals before succumbing to a hamstring injury, has left the tournament and returned home for rehabilitation.
Ricky Ponting was already insured of Marsh’s IPL 2024 campaign
This news confirms the earlier suspicions voiced by Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting. “I don’t think he’ll be coming back,” Ponting had said. With the T20 World Cup fast approaching, Cricket Australia (CA) prioritized Marsh’s recovery and requested his return to Australia to complete a thorough rehabilitation process.
“They’ve been managing his rehab for a couple of weeks now,” Ponting explained. “I spoke to him the other day and it seems it’s taken a little longer than he first thought to get over it. I don’t think the T20 World Cup would be an issue.”
Marsh’s absence leaves a significant void in the Delhi Capitals’ lineup. Despite his early absence, the Capitals have managed to win three out of their eight matches, currently sitting at number eight on the IPL table with six points.
The focus for Marsh now shifts entirely to the T20 World Cup, scheduled to begin on June 1st in the USA and West Indies. Both Cricket Australia and Marsh himself remain optimistic about his recovery and potential participation in the prestigious tournament.
