Chennai Super Kings star batter Devon Conway has been ruled out of the remainder of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2024). He was yet to play a match in the season but has been the driving force behind CSK’s triumphant journey for the past two years.
Last year, when CSK lifted their fifth trophy, he scored 672 runs from 15 innings. Overall, the New Zealand batter owns 924 runs from 22 innings at an average of 48.63. He boasts nine half-centuries for CSK, solidifying his status as one of the prime batters.
However, Conway does not have any chance to prove his mettle in the ongoing season. He fractured his thumb during a T20I against Australia in February at home and is not yet fully recovered. Notably, the player was hopeful for the second half of the IPL 2024.
Devon Conway’s replacement for remainder of the IPL 2024
It is pertinent to mention that CSK have named pacer Richard Gleeson as his replacement. The 36-year-old fast bowler from England has never played IPL before. However, his stint with other franchises grabbed CSK’s selectors’ attention.
He has played for Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League, Rangpur Riders in the Bangladesh Premier League, Manchester Originals in The Hundred, Durban Super Giants in the SA20, and Gulf Giants in the ILT20. In the T20 format, Gleeson has 101 wickets from 87 outings.
It remains to be seen if Gleeson will replicate his past success in the IPL 2024, as CSK yearn for another triumphant season. Under Ruturaj Gaikwad’s captaincy, they are currently placed third on the table with eight points from six appearances.
