Pakistan Women’s cricket team’s skipper Bismah Maroof has appeared in the press conference after the Pak-W arrival back in the country after mediocre showcases in the ongoing Women’s World Cup 2022. Pakistan became the first team to be knocked out of the event and Bismah has a lot to opine about it.

The batter senses the scenario for Pak-W could have been different had they won the close matches versus South Africa and Bangladesh. Visibly, Maroof and co were close to victory in the mentioned two matches but failed to manage to adhere to blunders.
“There is no doubt that we are disappointed by our run in the world cup. But, I think our standings on the points table would be different if we had won two close matches against South Africa and Bangladesh,”
“I think these defeats hurt us and we also learned from it. We will now take the field with a better approach,”
Bismah has highlighted the difference between Pak-W and other top teams and commented they will work on the weak areas for improvement. She feels to minimize these differences, Pak-W needs to play more competitive cricket.
“There is no doubt there is a lot of difference between the leading teams and us. We are lacking different approaches but are hopeful of working on our weaknesses,”
“We are getting a chance to play competitive cricket and I think the more matches we play the more it will improve our mental strength,”
It must be noted Pakistan won their only game against West Indies in a nail-biting match. The game broke their 13-year old losing streak in the World Cup and Bismah is happy about that. They last won in a World Cup match back in 2009 against the same opponent and had not been able to victor in any since then. Bismah said they were under pressure due to a years-long losing streak that finally got broken during World Cup 2022.
“We had a lot of pressure on us of not winning any world cup match in 13 years. But, thankfully, we have at least broken that losing streak,”
She also emphasized the good side of the event for Pak-W mentioning Sidra Amin’s century and Nida Dar’s wonderful bowling spells. Notably, Bismah herself put up brighter performances and also surpassed 5000 international runs becoming the first Pakistani to do so.
“We also had a lot of positives to take from the world cup, from Sidra Ameen becoming the first batter to score a world cup century to Nida Dar’s exceptional bowling performance. We will look to carry these positives with us in our next challenges,”
It is pertinent to mention Pak-W ended their World Cup 2022 journey with one out of seven wins, ending last on the points table with two points.
