Sunil Gavaskar in hot waters for his insulting comments on Shane Watson

Sunil Gavaskar in hot waters for his insulting comments on Shane Watson

Shane Warne’s death has left everyone in a great shock and the devastated cricket world is yet to get itself together. Australian legendary cricketer, who left the world on 4th March suffering a sudden cardiac arrest, was found unresponsive in his Thailand’s villa. Despite the best medical support provided to him, he lost the race to live more and bid farewell to this world.

Warne’s family requested privacy and did not want to respond to any query, however, his mother, a day after his demise, has made a comment saying they are all yet in a shock but are okay anyways. Surprisingly, he posted a mourning tweet 12 hours before his death remembering his dear friend Rod Marsh, the former cricketer, who also died of a heart attack. Nobody knew Warne was going to be the next.

The cricket world is yet to get over the lost and feels a lot of cricket has died with him. With all across the globe passing several statements for the gigantic cricketer, the comments of Sunil Gavaskar, the former Indian cricketer, have been found insulting and appropriate for Warne, that too on the occasion of his death.

Warne has been paid tribute over his terrific cricketing career but Gavaskar is only receiving backlash from the cricket world on thinking that ‘Warne is not the best of all time’. Gavaskar must be hiding his face behind the curtains since words once spotted, cannot be taken back.

Whilst talking to India today, the former cricketer added Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan and India’s Anil Kumble were better than the late cricketer. There is no deny to the fact Warne was the greatest leg spinner of his time who kept the legacy alive during 1990s. He has died unrivaled and will be remembered forever.

No, I wouldn’t say that (Warne is the greatest spinner of all time). For me, the Indian spinners and Muttiah Muralitharan were certainly better than Shane Warne,” Gavaskar said.

The former Indian cricketer continued saying Warne was very ordinary against India and managed to get five wickets only once in Nagpur. Gavaskar has set a parameter to judge the finest leg spinner of all time with his number of wickets versus India.

“Because look at his record against India. His record is pretty ordinary against India. He got five wickets only once in Nagpur. Because he didn’t have much success against the Indian team, I would rank Muralitharan over him in my book”,

People say the remarks from Gavaskar, who is listed among the cricket gurus, are so odd and poor. Rather than remembering a person on his death wit good words, the senseless cricketer has chosen to analyze, compare and contrast Shane Warne’s performances against his national team.

Let’s have a look at a few of the social reactions:
