In a surprising turn of events, Ali Zafar and Aima Baig have been announced as the voices of PSL 9, set to kick off on February 17th across four cities: Karachi, Lahore, Multan, and Rawalpindi. Fans, who have consistently demanded Ali Zafar’s participation, are thrilled with the news. The singer gained immense popularity for his anthems, especially the widely acclaimed “Phir Seeti Bajegi,” which elevated the PSL anthems to a whole new level.
Despite allegations of harassment by female singer Meesha Shafi, he was not proven guilty. However, since then, he had been sidelined and not given an opportunity to sing. Last year, during Najam Sethi’s tenure, his son Ali Sethi was chosen for the PSL 8 anthem. With only 15 days left until the commencement of PSL 9, the anthem, featuring Ali, is eagerly anticipated.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) initially recorded three anthems for the upcoming season, selecting one in Ali Zafar’s voice. However, objections were raised by a female official (Shafi) within the franchise, citing concerns about the appropriateness of Zafar’s reintroduction given past events. Zaka Ashraf, the then Chairman of the Management Committee, did not sign the agreement, resulting in a change of plans.
PCB gives Ali Zafar a chance
Under the current leadership, there seems to be a shift in perspective. Authorities believe that since Zafar has not been proven guilty, there should be no obstacle to providing him an opportunity. The decision to reinstate him as the voice of PSL 9 has sparked excitement among fans, eager to hear his rendition once again.
Aima Baig has also shared her enthusiasm on social media, but Ali is yet to make a statement regarding his involvement in the project. As the countdown to PSL 9 continues, fans eagerly await the release of the anthem, anticipating a musical spectacle that has become synonymous with the league.
