In a strategic move to enhance the visibility and reach of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly considering a caravan model for the upcoming season.

The inaugural edition of WPL, the female counterpart of the IPL conceptualized by former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, took place in Mumbai. If approved, the caravan model for WPL Season 2 is set to kick off at Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, offering a vibrant start, and conclude with the playoffs and final at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

According to sources, WPL 2024 is tentatively scheduled to run from February 22 to March 17, adding excitement to the cricket calendar. The caravan model involves moving the tournament to different cities, providing fans across the country with the opportunity to witness high-quality women’s cricket.

The WPL, operating on a double round-robin format, currently features five teams, with Mumbai Indians Women emerging victorious in the inaugural season. The league’s expansion and relocation to multiple cities signify a commitment from the BCCI to elevate the stature of women’s cricket in India.

The decision to implement the caravan model aligns with the broader goal of making women’s cricket more accessible and popular among diverse audiences. With the prospect of matches at iconic venues like Chinnaswamy and Arun Jaitley Stadiums, WPL Season 2 promises to be an exciting spectacle, fostering a new era for women’s cricket in India.
