In the recent developments of Pakistan Cricket (PCB), it is apparently visible that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is looking for three captains for three different formats. While the board has been making statements that things are pretty fin with Babar Azam, the journalists are telling another side of the story.
It has been reported that PCB and Babar do not stand on the same page and the apex board is likely to divide the leadership roles to obtain the required results across all formats. We can have a look at top four contestants.
Pakistan’s next captain?
It is difficult to definitively say that Babar Azam would be the best choice for captaincy in all three formats based on just their statistical performances. Captaining a team involves not just personal performance, but also the ability to lead and strategize for the team as a whole.
While Babar Azam has consistently performed well with the bat in ODIs and Tests, and has a good overall record in T20Is, it is important to consider other factors such as his leadership skills and his ability to make strategic decisions on the field.
Similarly, while Sarfaraz Ahmed has done well in Tests and has a decent record in ODIs, his average in T20Is is lower than Babar’s and it is unclear how he would fare as a captain in that format. Shan Masood and Shadab Khan may also have potential as captains, but their limited experience in ODIs and their statistical performances as batsmen may not make them the strongest candidates for the role.
Ultimately, the decision on who should captain the Pakistan cricket team in each format will depend on a variety of factors and it will be up to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to determine the best fit for the role.
