The International Cricket Council (ICC) has updated its rankings, according to which the Pakistani skipper Babar Azam has slid down to the third spot in the ICC T20I rankings for batsmen. The right-handed batter has not enjoyed a significant stint in the recently ended Asia Cup 2022 as he could only manage 68 runs in eight games.
Babar’s magic has not worked even once throughout the tournament, which has dropped him to the third position in the T20I rankings for the batters. He has been replaced by South Africa’s Aiden Markram. During the Asia Cup, the Pakistani captain slid down to the second slot as his counterpart, wicketkeeping batter Mohammad Rizwan rose as the world’s number 1 T20I batsman.
Rizwan has been the top run-scorer of the Asia Cup 2022, amassing 281 runs from six games at an average of 56.20 and at a strike rate of 117.57. India’s Virat Kohli, who has regained his form after a gap of three years, is the second-most run-getter of the tournament after Rizwan. He has scored 276 runs with the highest score of 122* versus Afghanistan.
Getting a reward for his performances, Kohli has improved a total of 14 spots to 15th overall on the T20I batter rankings due to his efforts. After seeing the drought, the former Indian skipper is moving in the right direction, looking for further improvements.
Babar is also expected to perform in the upcoming home T20I series versus England, followed by the T20 World Cup 2022, to regain the top spot. Fans anticipate seeing their favourite batter as the World’s number one T20 batsman once again.
