England’s white-ball captain Eoin Morgan is set to announce his retirement from international cricket on June 28th, Tuesday. His mate Moeen Ali shared the news while talking to BBC’s Test match special and said Morgan feels his era is ended in the team.
Moeen further reveals that the World Cup 2019 winning skipper is paving way for others to occupy the leading post. While talking, he revealed there are chances Jos Buttler might take over Morgan’s role as England’s limited-overs skipper.
We’ve been so strong over the years and he probably feels like his time is done and that he’s given enough time for Jos, or whoever the captain is going to be, to embed his way,”
Notably, Morgan became England‘s skipper back in 2014 ahead of the World Cup 2015 and became the successor of Alastair Cook. He has decided to put curtains down on his stellar career amassing over 10,000 runs across ODIs and T20Is.
However, with the concerns raised over his suffering form and fitness, the under-pressure skipper has decided to step down not only as a skipper but as a player too. It must be noted Morgan’s last 28 appearances saw him getting only two half-centuries.
Morgan has been unable to play games due to back-to-back injuries and also missed a recent ODI versus Netherlands with a groin niggle after two consecutive ducks in the first two matches.
It is now to see whether Morgan will take part in coaching activities retire from all forms of cricket, or will continue to play franchise cricket across the world.
The left-handed batter has featured in 248 ODIs since 2006 and has gathered 7701 runs. As far as T20Is are concerned, Eoin Morgan has appeared in 115 T20Is since 2009 and has 2458 runs to his name. It must be noted he started his ODI career for Ireland as out of 7701 ODI runs, 6957 have been made for England. The Irish-born cricketer has also played 16 test matches.
