- Justin Langer is open to coaching England’s Test team
- The ECB is looking to bring a change in the coaching staff after a disastrous Ashes and WI series
- Langer will e appointed before the New Zealand series
According to sources close to the matter, Australia’s most prolific former opener and coach, Justin Langer is open to coaching the national team of England. the English team came under massive critique following the horrible show in Ashes in Australia in the summer. After the 4-0 defeat, Joe Root and his men had to face another round of humiliation when they lost the Botham-Richards Test series against West Indies 1-0.
The England and Whaled Cricket Board (ECB) had sacked Chris Silverwood, the team’s Head Coach after the disastrous Australia tour and sources privy to the matter suggest that the interim coach Paul Collingwood may not be handed the red-ball coaching. If the rumours are true, then Justin Langer, who stepped down from his role last month will be granted a permanent coaching contract for England’s red-ball cricket.
It wouldn’t be wrong to say that Langer really helped Australia lift the short and long format game up ever since he took charge from Darren Lehmann. his achievements include helping Australia reach the cricket World Cup 2019 semi-finals and winning Australia their maiden T20 World Cup in 2021. the former opener decided to quit the role when he was offered a very short extension in his contract. Many from the cricketing world raised their concerns over Cricket Australia(CA) not treating Langer the way he deserves.
England’s next Test assignment will be in June against New Zealand on their own homeground and the board will definitely be looking to rope in Langer before that.
