Emerging Pakistani pace sensation Zaman Khan has etched his name in the record books by surpassing Shadab Khan’s T20 wickets tally in a calendar year. Currently plying his trade in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024 for Sydney Thunder, Zaman claimed his 62nd wicket of the year, eclipsing Shadab’s record of 61 T20 wickets in the previous calendar year.
The former Pakistani all-rounder Azhar Mahmood, alongside ex-pacer Wahab Riaz and Haris Rauf, now shares the third spot in this distinguished list, each having claimed 60 T20 wickets. Azhar secured this record back in 2013, while Wahab and Haris jointly held it in 2019 and 2022, respectively.
Zaman, who has played six T20Is up to date, has been making waves in the BBL 2024, underlining his all-around excellence. Remarkably, he recently achieved the milestone of 100 wickets in T20 cricket, achieving this feat in only his 79th match.
On the other hand, Shadab Khan, who has faced a dip in form, was omitted from the upcoming T20Is against New Zealand and the ongoing Test series against Australia.
