Yuvraj Singh, the legendary Indian cricketer, has been named as the Ambassador for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. With just over a month to go until the tournament kicks off, this announcement adds to the excitement surrounding the pinnacle event of T20 cricket.
Yuvraj, known for his remarkable performance in the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 where he famously hit six sixes in an over, expressed his enthusiasm about being part of this edition. He reminisced about his fondest memories from previous T20 World Cups and highlighted the unique atmosphere that cricket in the West Indies brings. Additionally, he acknowledged the expanding cricket fanbase in the USA and expressed his excitement about contributing to its growth through the upcoming tournament.
One of the highlights of the T20 World Cup will be the India versus Pakistan match scheduled to take place in New York on 9 June. Yuvraj emphasized the significance of this fixture, anticipating it to be one of the biggest sporting events of the year.
Claire Furlong, ICC General Manager for Marketing & Communications, praised Yuvraj’s association with the T20 World Cup, citing his iconic moment of hitting six sixes as a testament to his legacy in the tournament. She also announced Yuvraj joining Chris Gayle and Usain Bolt as ambassadors, adding to the anticipation of what promises to be the biggest T20 World Cup ever.
The tournament, scheduled from 1-29 June, will feature 20 teams playing a total of 55 matches across nine venues. The opening fixture will see co-hosts USA facing Canada at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas.
Notably, the historic first match at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York will take place on 3 June between former champions Sri Lanka and South Africa. This match marks the beginning of a series of games in New York, featuring a total of 10 teams across eight matches.
