- The Pakistan women cricket team won their first match of the World Cup 2022
- They broke the losing streak of 18 matches.
- Nida Dar’s four-for massively aided Pakistan in the win
The Women’s World Cup 2022 got exciting for Pakistan as the women in green managed to bag their first win of the tournament after suffering four consecutive losses. Not only this but with the win the Pakistan women cricket team has broken the 18 matches World Cup losing streak. The win has handed Pakistan much-needed points on the table, their first in a long long time.
The rain-struck match saw both teams play a 20 over format game. Batting first the women in maroon had a horrible first inning. Opener Deandra Dottin and captain Stafanie Taylor were the only two players who scored in double figures, hitting 27 and 18 runs respectfully. But more than their incapability to bat was the sheer brilliance of Nida Dar with the ball that kept the opposition under check. Dar registered best bowling figures of 4-0-10-4 to keep the West Indies at 90 on 20 overs.
Pakistan women, who have been struggling with the bat up till now, put on a brilliant show in the second inning to administer the first win. Opener Muneeba Ali scored 37 while Bismah and Omaima gathered 20 and 22 runs each to cruise the team ship towards victory. An easy win in a seemingly one-sided match gave the girls a much-needed confidence boost
Ironically, the last time the Pakistan team won the match in the 2009 World Cup, it also came against West Indies. Even in the T20 World Cup 2020, Bismah’s team managed to win just one match that too against the maroon shirts. The opposition has been pretty handy with giving the green women their wins in the World Cups. And while the Pakistani girls would not be able to qualify to the semi-finals, the chances of West Indies women have also been seriously jolted.
Maroof and the girls will play two more matches in this World Cup against England and New Zealand.
