Will Virat Kohli play Asia Cup 2022?

Indian cricketer Virat Kohli has been in the light for public discussions regarding his down performance since November 2019, with no centuries scored in any of the three cricketing formats. He has been out of the Indian squad for the ODI series against Zimbabwe, which is scheduled for the coming month.

Virat has not been able to score runs and has been in no good form since then. The team selectors and management got a topic for concern after the star batters’ lousy performance in the recent games. They want him to take a break which might improve his current form.

On the other hand, Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria said that Kohli might even get dropped for Asia Cup 2022 and believes that he should be a part of the ODI series against Zimbabwe instead of youngster Ishan Kishan. He quoted that:

“India shouldn’t have picked Ishan Kishan in the side as Sanju Samson would then have gotten to play all three ODIs without any extra pressure. Instead of Kishan, Kohli should have been in the squad,” Kaneria said while speaking on his YouTube channel.

“Virat Kohli should have played in this series. Does BCCI think that he should only feature in major tournaments? But if he fails there, then once again there would be talks about his lack of form. I think that is an injustice for Virat Kohli,” he added.

“You have to be very clear with how you want to handle him. While he was rested for the entire West Indies tour, he surely should have been there for the Zimbabwe series. He could have found his form in the 50-over games and then played the Asia Cup. But it seems now that he might be dropped for the Asia Cup as well,” Kaneria further said.

Virat is now on a long break, not being a part of the limited over game against West Indies and further not playing the ODI series in Zimbabwe, and his appearance in the Asia Cup 2022 still remains a question for some.
