India breaks Pakistan’s record of most consecutive ODI series win against a team.
The Indian cricket team defeated West Indies in the second match of the ongoing 3-match ODI series. West Indies had won the toss and elected to bat first at the Queen’s Park Oval Stadium, Port of Spain in Trinidad, setting a quality target of 312 for the team in blue. The Indian squad secured the target with two balls to spare and two wickets still in hand.
Shai Hope scored 115 runs off 135 deliveries for the West Indies cricket team, but his century couldn’t keep up the pace for his team as the other batsman did not add up much except Nicholas Pooran. Shardul Thakur took three wickets of the West Indies player, whereas Axar Patel had bowled exceptionally with an economy rate of just 4.44 in nine overs. He, together with Shreyas Iyer, remained the top scorers for team India.
Axar Patel’s brilliant performance both with the bat and ball led India to a glorious victory. He scored 64 runs in 35 balls and took one wicket giving away 40 runs in 9 overs, with India also breaking arch-rival Pakistan’s record for most consecutive wins against a team in ODIs. India’s victory against West Indies was the 12th straight win against them in ODIs which broke Pakistan’s record of 11 consecutive wins against Zimbabwe in the same.
Patel was also declared the man of the match with his splendid performance. Currently, the Indian team is on the top list, winning the most consecutive wins against a single team. Team India also succeeded in their first highest ODI run chase in West Indies.
