The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is gearing up to unveil the squad for the upcoming T20I fixtures against Ireland, England, and the T20 World Cup in June, with an announcement expected in the next few days. Sources suggest that a total of 18 players will be named in the squad for these crucial matches.
The deadline for submitting the squad for the T20 World Cup is May 1, with the provision for changes until May 25, pending approval from the International Cricket Council (ICC). Ahead of the series against Ireland, a brief training camp for the national side is anticipated to be organized by the PCB.
Pakistan’s schedule is packed with T20 action, starting with three matches against Ireland and followed by four encounters against England on foreign soil in May. Led by captain Babar Azam, the Pakistani squad is set to embark on their tour of Ireland on May 7, with subsequent fixtures scheduled against England.
Following the conclusion of the England tour, Pakistan will head to the United States in preparation for the T20 World Cup. The team’s itinerary includes T20Is against Ireland commencing from May 10, followed by clashes against England starting from May 22.
Looking ahead to the T20 World Cup 2024, Pakistan are slated to take on USA, India, Canada, and Ireland on June 6, 9, 11, and 16, respectively. Notably, the recently concluded five-match series against New Zealand ended in a tie (2-2), with only four players from the Kiwi squad making it to their T20 World Cup lineup, highlighting the competitive nature of selection in international cricket.
New Zealand squad: Kane Williamson (c), Finn Allen, Trent Boult, Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Daryl Mitchell, Jimmy Neesham, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee, Ben Sears (travelling reserve).
