The T20I World Cup of 2016 took place in India and there was no way team India wasn’t qualifying for the semi-finals. On 27th March 2016, Virat Kohli made sure a spot is booked for his team in the semis. To reach that stage, the men in blue had a massive task in front of them and it was to beat the mighty Aussies.
The match that was being staged in Mohali between India and Australia saw the Kangaroos take the pitch first. They were off to a good start with a smashing opening partnership between Usman Khwaja and Aaron Finch. But once these two were sent back into the sheds, India managed to restrict the opposition at 160.
Contrary to the Aussies, the men in blue were off to a slow and awful start. But when a determined Virat Kohli took to the 22-yards, there was no way India wasn’t qualifying even though the chances looked grim. In the last four overs, the hosts needed 47 runs. Kohli used James Faulkner’s and Coulter-Nile’s over to score massive 32 runs. In the end, thanks to Virat’s heroics, team India made it to the semi-finals with five balls to spare.
Unfortunately, the hosts got defeated in the semis from West Indies who went on to win against England in the finals.
