The Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) is reportedly unhappy with Pakistan-born Usman Khan for a sudden breach of contract. Khan, who represented Multan Sultans in PSL 2024 as an overseas player, has shown his desire to build a career in Pakistan Cricket.
Notably, he left Pakistan to explore better opportunities in the UAE and also featured in last year’s ILT20 for the Gulf Giants as a local player. Despite holding a Pakistani passport, the player played as a local player as Giants are owned by Indian businessmen.
However, Usman has shown his desire to represent Pakistan, specifically after his successful stint in PSL 2024 including two centuries. His decision is backed by the PCB. Notably, a senior MS official has helped him throughout the process as he has written a letter to ECB to terminate his contract.
The ECB has started investigating the development. It is reported that Usman will not be able to play any form of cricket in UAE afterwards. At the conclusion of PSL 2024, he was due to return to UAE, however, changed his plans.
Furthermore, Usman, who was awarded a retainer contract by the ECB, was set to represent UAE’s national team last year. His hope to represent Pakistan in the upcoming New Zealand T20I series and World Cup 2024 has persuaded him to alter his decisions.
Usman has never played international cricket for either of the nations. While PCB has assured him a spot, it remains to be seen if he will get a chance in playing XI of upcoming endeavours, or will put his career at stake.
