On Monday, India thrashed Sri Lanka by 238 runs in the second and final Test, completing a 2-0 series sweep. Sri Lanka finished their second innings at 208 after captain Dimuth Karunaratne hit a brilliant 107 on the third day. This brings Sri Lanka’s visit to India to a close. The Sri Lankans were beaten in the T20I series, losing 3-0, before being dismissed 2-0 in the Test series.
Sri Lankan skipper Dimuth Karunaratne battled hard to bring up his 14th Test ton, 107 after India declared on 303-9, but Sri Lankan team was dismissed for 208 runs. In Mohali, India won the first test by an innings and 222 runs in three days, and Rohit Sharma’s team repeated the same in Bengaluru, knocking Sri Lanka out in the second session. India’s paceman Jasprit Bumrah (3/23) and spinner R Ashwin (4/55) combined for seven wickets.
India’s Shreyas Iyer was declared man of the match for his two half-centuries while wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant was called the player of the series.
According to Rohit Sharma
“It’s been a good run and I’ve enjoyed it personally and as a team. We wanted to achieve a few things as a team and we’ve done that,”
He further stated
“Pink ball tests are challenging. We never knew what it was like to play with the pink ball in India, but we are learning to make those adjustments. The crowd just makes it more special.”
Where as Karunaratne said
“I would have been more happier if we had won, but it was a tough one, we batted under lights and it was tough. But I have worked hard on my batting. We have a good team, the batting didn’t capitalize on these conditions, the bowling was good, but we kept bowling loose deliveries every now and then, that’s what we need to work on going further. There have been several youngsters coming up and this was an experience for them. It has been special playing alongside Lakmal and I wish him well for the upcoming county season.“
“Man of the Match” Shreyas Iyar said
That wasn’t my normal approach, but I saw the batters struggling, so I knew I had to be attacking and put the pressure back on the bowlers. I was batting on 55 when he came in, and then I added around 40 more runs. I could have got out earlier as well, so didn’t worry about the hundred. I just wanted to bat as many balls as possible, knew that I had some support down the order with Shami and ABumrah. I have always dreamt about playing Test cricket for India, good feeling to come and contribute, want to keep this going.
