Match 3, Adelaide, December 09, 2023, 01:45 PM

Match Abandoned without toss

Commentry
Right then, that's all we have for now. The 2023/24 Big Bash League is just getting started and there is plenty of action to look forward to in the days to come. On Sunday, the 10th of December, the defending champions, the Perth Scorchers take on the Melbourne Renegades at the Kardinia Park in Geelong. The game will start at 1.45 pm IST (8.15 am GMT) but as always, our build-up will begin much sooner. See you then, cheers!
THE MATCH HAS BEEN CALLED OFF! The rain has had the final say! It had been raining since morning in Adelaide and the forecast was always for more rain. But we were still hopeful that we would be able to squeeze in at least a 5-over contest but it wasn't to be. Both teams take a point each from this encounter and as a result, Adelaide Strikers are off the mark in the 2023/24 Big Bash League whereas Brisbane Heat will stay top with a total of 3 points.
UPDATE - 2.49 pm IST (9.19 am GMT) - No improvement in the weather at the Adelaide Oval. The downpour continues and chances look slim for the match to begin. In other news, the Kiwis have pulled off a famous victory in the second Test against Bangladesh. At one stage in the chase, New Zealand were 69/6 but an unbeaten 70-run stand between Glenn Phillips and Mitchell Santner helped them snatch victory from a precarious position.
UPDATE - 2.08 pm IST (8.38 am GMT) - The umpires, Nathan Johnstone and Shawn Craig say that the radar doesn't look great but they are optimistic about having at least a 5-over per side game. The ground staff is working well to clear the water off the covers and they need only 50 minutes of clear weather for the game to begin with reduced overs.
UPDATE - 1.37 pm IST (8.07 am GMT) - The rain gods are in no mood to let the game start, as it’s still raining at the Adelaide Oval. The latest start time for a 5-over contest is 3.50 pm IST (10.20 am GMT) so we still have time on our hands. As we wait for the rain to relent here, you can switch tabs and follow the riveting action from the 2nd Test between Bangladesh and New Zealand where the Kiwis are struggling at 88-6 in their pursuit of 137. Stay tuned for further updates.
UPDATE - 1.13 pm IST (7.43 am GMT) - Bad news! It’s been raining all day in Adelaide and the weather forecast is not giving us any good hopes. The square is completely covered and let's hope that it stops as soon as possible. The bat flip has been delayed for now.
Brisbane Heat are off to a strong start this season and have been at their A game in the past season as well. They will be high on confidence after the win against the Melbourne Stars in the season opener. The Heat will be without the services of Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne, who have left for national duties, but they have good bench strength. In Khawaja's absence, Colin Munro will lead the side, and he will want to keep his form going. Their bowling unit was at their best in the last outing, helping Heat secure their biggest win in the team's history. This will surely be a tough contest as the two giants clash against each other. Bat flip and team news coming up shortly...
The Adelaide Strikers are all set to start a new season in the Big Bash League. The Strikers do not hold a good record against the Heat, as they faced them twice in the previous edition and lost both matches. Their last year's performance was also not good, as they finished second last in the league table. Chris Lynn is carrying huge expectations from the Strikers' fans, as is D'Arcy Short. Travis Head will be a big miss, who has been in splendid form in white-ball cricket. Skipper Matthew Short has contributed with both bat and ball in the past, and he will also be a threat for the Heat. The side is filled with star-studded players, but it remains to be seen whether they will be able to perform collectively and take the side over the line.
Hello and welcome to everyone tuning in as we build up to match number 3, where the Adelaide Strikers take on the Brisbane Heat at the Adelaide Oval. It has been raining since morning in Adelaide, which is never a good sign on a match day, but let's hope that the rain gods show mercy and we can have some action.
... MATCH DAY ...
In the pulsating rhythm of the Big Bash League 2023, we find ourselves at the cusp of an exhilarating clash as Adelaide Strikers prepare to lock horns with Brisbane Heat in the third match of the season at Adelaide Oval. Brisbane Heat, riding the wave of a triumphant opening game, brings a wealth of winning momentum to the battlefield, having decimated Melbourne Stars in a high-scoring encounter. On the other end of the spectrum, Adelaide Strikers are set to commence their campaign, armed with a formidable lineup and a fervent desire to make a resounding impact from the get-go. The cricketing universe has long been enamored with the Big Bash League, renowned for its colossal sixes and spectacular run chases, and this encounter promises nothing less. Adelaide Strikers boast a star-studded ensemble featuring the likes of Travis Head, Alex Carey, Chris Lynn, Jaime Overton, and Matthew Short, all of whom are in scintillating form. The anticipation is rife as these cricketing maestros aim to spearhead Adelaide Strikers' formidable challenge, marking their territory early in the season. With the lush Adelaide Oval as their battleground, the Strikers are keen on harnessing the home advantage and igniting a winning spree. On the flip side, Brisbane Heat enters this fixture on the back of a commanding victory over Melbourne Stars. Their juggernaut rolled to a staggering 213 runs in 20 overs, a display highlighted by Colin Munro's scintillating unbeaten 99. The bowlers, led by Mitchell Swepson's three-wicket haul, orchestrated the downfall of Melbourne Stars, bundling them out for a mere 111. Brisbane Heat will be eager to sustain this winning momentum as they confront Adelaide Strikers in their second outing. The weather gods are predicted to be in a benevolent mood, setting the stage for a captivating encounter that promises to weave more unforgettable chapters into the tapestry of the Big Bash League 2023.
