Sri Lanka to tour Bangladesh for two Tests in May 2022

  • Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will play a two-match test series in May 2022

Sri Lanka will voyage to Bangladesh for a two-match Test series to be played in May 2022. The two matches will be part of the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23. It must be noted Sri Lanka are ranked 5th on the tournament’s points table whereas, Bangladesh are placed 8th.

The visitors will reach the destination on May 8th. Before the test series starts, they will play two practise matches in Chattogram at the MA Aziz Stadium.

As per reliable reports, the first match will be played at the same centre, Chattogram, however, on a different ground at the Zahur Ahmed Choudhary Cricket Stadium between May 15 and May 19. The second match will take place in Dhaka at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium between May 23 and May 27.

Sri Lanka’s points on the WTC points table are the result of the series against West Indies. They won the encounter by 2-0 at home. The forthcoming series was originally scheduled for October-November 2021 but had to be postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Sri Lanka earlier visited Bangladesh in May 2021 for a three-match ODI series.

Momentarily, Bangladesh are playing against South Africa in a two-match Test series. The first Test started on March 31 in Durban. The red-green jerseys toured South Africa for the first time since they got their Test position in the year 2000. They will be utilizing this chance to seal the game against the Proteas since the hosts’ many players are missing due to the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2022).

Bangladesh registered their first-ever Test win against New Zealand in an away match. Dimuth Karunaratne will look to compensate for their previous loss against India, and get back to the winning track in red-ball cricket. Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have faced each other in Tests 22 times. They last met in the longest format of the game in April 2021.
