Sri Lanka switches venues for second Test match against Pakistan

As the first ongoing Test match between Sri Lanka and Pakistan is being played in the Galle International Stadium, the second was meant to be played at the venue of Colombo. Still, it has been forced by the cricket organisers due to Sri Lanka’s economic and political crisis, which led to several challenges to move it back again to Galle.

As the Sri Lankans are yet to choose a new President for their country this week, there have been a lot of protests and civil unrest against the government. Currently, the matches are going out well without any interference regarding the protests. Still, due to the possibilities of risk regarding political demonstration, the 2nd Test will be moved from Colombo to the Galle Stadium.

On July 09, 2022, in the 2nd Test between Sri Lanka and Australia, which was being held in Galle, the crowd witnessed a slight protest inside the stadium, which wasn’t as much as seen in Colombo. If this Test series between Pak vs Sri Lanka is conducted at Galle, then Sri Lanka will completely and successfully have hosted three consecutive Test series at this venue.

After considering the current situation, the decision by the Sri Lankan cricket board was taken on 18th July, Monday, during the 3rd day of the 1st Test match between Pak and Sri Lanka, to shift the venue from R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
