- BCB has added Shakib Al Hasan to its 21-player central contracts 2022
- Shakib will not earn a single penny till the time he rejoins the Bangladesh squad
- Shakib has refrained playing national cricket citing mental and personal reasons
- BCB has given Shakib gap from international cricket till 30 April despite not entertaining his excuses
Bangladesh’s cricketer Shakib Al Hasan has been named in the all-format contract released by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for the calendar year 2022. The board named the 21-player centrally contracted cricketers on Friday including Shakib’s name in it for all three formats.
People are shocked to see Shakib’s name despite the difference created between the player and the board recently. Shakib sidelined himself from the New Zealand series earlier this year and also has withdrawn from the upcoming away series versus South Africa. At first, he showed his interest in playing hence, was named in the ODI squad vs NZ, however, denied later which triggered the board’s handle Nazmul Hasan for legit reasons.
It was not as if he earlier informed the board about his decision to refrain from the series, but denied it at the very last moment citing personal and mental reasons. The BCB, seeing things happening from his end on regular intervals, lashed out at him asking if he would have done the same with an IPL franchise, if named, leaving on a sudden note citing mental and personal excuses. Moreover, Nazmul understands there are no such reasons since if there were any, the all-rounder would not have given his name in the mega auction 2022. He questioned Shakib’s desire to represent the country at the highest level.
However, according to BCB laws, a player, despite being given a contract, will only be paid during his unavailability if there is a serious injury. It means, Shakib although being in the 21-player centrally contracted list, will not earn a single penny till the time he will not re-join the squad.
Shakib Al Hasan not to earn from central contract during gap
A BCB official, according to Cricbuzz, stated,
“If anyone is unavailable to perform national duty other than injury in that case he will not be paid for that time frame when the team is playing,”
Alongside Shakib, Mushfiqur Rahim, Liton Das, Taskin Ahmed, and Shoriful IslamIt are named in the central contracts for all formats. It must be noted that BCB has accepted Shakib’s reasons unwillingly granting him a gap from international cricket till 30th April.
