- All-rounder Sam Curran missed this year’s IPL due to injury
- the player doesn’t like watching from home but says it’s a good decision to avoid injuries for now.
- Curran hopes he will return to the tournament in the next season
England’s all-rounder Sam Curran has expressed frustration ay missing this year’s IPL. The youngster did not participate in IPL 2022 due to having fitness issues. playing for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for a few seasons and doing fairly well, Curransustained a stress fracture when he appeared for the second phase of the league in UAE last year.
the fracture then led to him missing the T20I World Cup and the winter ashes that followed the tournament. the 23-year-old was expected to fully recover by the time of IPL but it did not happen and the lad was asked to take it easy and not register for the IPL auction that happened in February by the England and Whales Cricket Board (ECB).
Even though the cricketer feels gutted for missing one of the biggest and hyped-up cricket leagues in the world, he also feels satisfied at giving himself more time to heal from the injuries. “I’m gutted not to be there. It’s a frustration watching from home. I wanted to go [into the auction] but I didn’t at the end – which was probably the best decision. Looking back, (the) IPL probably came a little bit too soon,” said Curran while talking to ESPNcricinfo.
The left-arm medium-fast bowler is back in the nets and practising those deliveries and thinks that he could have made it back to the league but in the end, didn’t want to land himself in more trouble with injuries. But he’s hopeful that he will return to IPL next season since it offers so much more than cricket
“I’m still quite young, so I didn’t want to overdo it with the match intensity and big crowds out there and risk another injury from coming back too early. I definitely want to go back [to the IPL] at some stage because you learn so much about your T20 game there: it’s a tournament where you live and breathe cricket. You go down for breakfast every day and you’re sitting with superstars, sitting down and chatting about the game,”
