Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar, renowned as one of the game’s all-time greats, has been appointed as the Global Ambassador for the upcoming ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, scheduled to kick off in India on October 5.
Tendulkar, a legendary figure in Indian cricket, will participate in a special ceremony at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, presenting the ICC Men’s World Cup Trophy before the opening clash between defending champions England and 2019 finalists New Zealand.
In the company of esteemed ICC ambassadors such as Sir Vivian Richards, Eoin Morgan, AB de Villiers, Mithali Raj, Mohammad Hafeez, Muttiah Muralitharan, Ross Taylor, Suresh Raina, and Aaron Finch, Tendulkar’s role adds star power to the prestigious event.
The cricket maestro, who represented India in an impressive six World Cups, notably achieving victory in the 2011 edition, expressed the significance of the World Cup in his cricketing journey.

Having transitioned from a ball boy in 1987 to a six-time World Cup participant, Tendulkar revealed his dream of playing in the prestigious tournament and highlighted the 2011 triumph as the pinnacle of his illustrious career.
He shared his sentiments with the ICC, stating,
“From being a ball boy in 1987 to representing the country in six editions, World Cups have always held a special place in my heart. Winning the World Cup in 2011 was the proudest moment of my cricketing journey.”
Tendulkar, who attributes his cricketing inspiration to India’s historic 1983 World Cup victory, hopes that the 2023 edition will similarly inspire the younger generation. Anticipating a competitive tournament with renowned players.
He expressed excitement about the event and its potential impact,
“With so many special teams and players set to compete hard in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 here in India, I am excitedly looking forward to this fantastic tournament,”
Tendulkar remarked.
He added,
“Marquee events like the World Cup seed dreams in young minds; I hope this edition too inspires young girls and boys to pick up sports and represent their countries at the highest level.”
India, led by Tendulkar’s cricketing successor, will commence their World Cup campaign against Australia in Chennai on Sunday, October 8.
