Mumbai Indians veteran batter Rohit Sharma has registered an unwanted batting record as the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) continues. Facing off the Rajasthan Royals on Monday, the ex-MI captain was sent off for a golden duck by Trent Boult.
Featuring in IPL since 2008, Sharma now has 17 ducks to his name, which is the joint most by any batter in the tournament’s history. Dinesh Karthik, currently playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, also has 17 IPL ducks to his name.
Notably, out of these 17, Sharma has a tally of five golden ducks one of which came today against the Royals. Apart from Sharma, Naman Dahir and Dewald Brevis also became Boult’s prey on golden ducks.
As far as the other batters with the most IPL ducks are concerned, Piyush Chawla, Mandeep Singh, Sunil Narine, and Glenn Maxwell are next in the lane with 15 ducks. They are followed by Rashid Khan, Manish Pandey, and Ambati Rayudu – all three have 14 IPL ducks under their belt.
Talking about the MI vs RR match, the MI batted first and totalled 125 on the board on the loss of nine wickets. Tilak Verma’s 32 and Hardik Pandya’s 34 saved their reputation otherwise, they looked trembling under 100.
The Rajasthan Royals are currently chasing it down and require 66 runs in 72 balls at the time of developing this story.
