In a post-match press conference following Quetta Gladiators’ victorious clash against Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL 9 opener on February 18th, Mohammad Amir shed light on an intriguing moment involving Babar Azam. The match marked a notable encounter between the two, as Babar led Zalmi while Amir, in a surprising move, found himself traded to Gladiators for the season.
Amir’s delivery of a well-executed bouncer to Babar in the third over of Zalmi’s chase sparked interest among cricket enthusiasts, elevating their status to rival players. Recent statements by Amir regarding Babar had already stirred controversy, hinting at underlying tensions between the two, especially considering Babar’s departure from Kings last season.
When questioned about Babar’s response to missing the bouncer, Amir clarified in his presser, “He is a good player but my role has always been to pick wickets of the top batter.” He elaborated further, highlighting Babar’s acknowledgment that the delivery had come at a rapid pace, leaving him unable to react accordingly.
“The instance you highlighted was regarding the bouncer which he said that it went quickly and couldn’t understand,”
While Babar showcased his batting prowess with a commendable 68 runs, Amir managed to secure one wicket for 29 runs in his debut match for Quetta Gladiators, under the leadership of Rilee Rossouw.
Despite Babar’s contribution, Zalmi fell short of the target, concluding their innings at 190-6. The encounter not only showcased the skillful display of cricket but also added an intriguing dimension to the budding rivalry between Babar Azam and Mohammad Amir in the PSL 9 tournament.
