Islamabad United have clinched the coveted spot as the third team to qualify for the playoffs in the exhilarating Pakistan Super League (PSL 2024) edition. The victory came after a nail-biting clash against Multan Sultans, known for its high scoring intensity, where Islamabad emerged triumphant, securing their passage to the playoffs.
Sultans, already assured of their playoff berth, faced a setback against United. Earlier, Peshawar Zalmi secured their position as the second team to advance to the playoffs, intensifying the competition for the remaining spot.
The battle for the final playoff spot is now between Karachi Kings and Quetta Gladiators. Quetta hold a favorable position, needing just one win out of their two remaining games to secure their playoff berth. Currently facing Lahore Qalandars, they sit at nine points on the table.
In the event that Gladiators lose both remaining matches, they’ll be eyeing Kings’ performance closely. Karachi, with eight points and placed fifth on the table, must win their last match against Zalmi to keep their playoff hopes alive.
However, even if Quetta loses both games and Karachi follows suit, Quetta’s higher points could still secure them a playoff spot. If Karachi wins their last match and Quetta manages to win one of their two remaining matches, Quetta will edge ahead with 11 points.
For Karachi Kings to qualify, they must hope for Quetta to lose both matches and secure victory for themselves against Zalmi.
In a remarkable display of skill, United successfully chased down a daunting 229-run target against Multan Sultans, securing a thrilling victory by three wickets. This match marked the highest score posted by Sultans in the season, further adding to the excitement of the PSL 2024.
