The selectors of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have recommended making amendments to the current squad for ICC T20 World Cup 2022. Middle-order woes have been a debatable aspect since its failure in the recently winded-up Asia Cup 2022. Including Asif Ali, Iftikhar Ahmed, and Khushdil Shah, all are yet to inspire with match-winning tactics.
It has been reported by ARY Digital that multiple selectors of the board have advised eradicating Khushdil from current Pakistan vs England T20I series and instead adding veteran Shoaib Malik or Haris Sohail. After checking Malik’s and Haris’s performances during the T20Is, they will be promoted to the T20 World Cup 2022 squad.
Notably, after middle-order woes continued in the Asia Cup, it failed in the first Pak vs Eng too. Seeing the continual struggles, the PCB selecting committee is reviewing the ideas of making changes. Including the committee, the experts and the fans are not in favour of the current middle-order of the squad.
It is pertinent to mention here that the last day to make changes in the World Cup squads is 15th October. PCB can review and update anytime without the approval of the Event’s Technical Committee. The current squad is as follows:
Babar Azam (captain) (Central Punjab), Shadab Khan (vice-captain) (Northern), Asif Ali (Northern), Haider Ali (Northern), Haris Rauf (Northern), Iftikhar Ahmed (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), Khushdil Shah (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), Mohammad Hasnain (Sindh), Mohammad Nawaz (Northern), Mohammad Rizwan (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), Mohammad Wasim Junior (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), Naseem Shah (Southern Punjab), Shaheen Shah Afridi (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), Shan Masood (Balochistan) and Usman Qadir (Central Punjab)
Traveling reserves: Fakhar Zaman (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), Mohammad Haris (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) and Shahnawaz Dahani (Sindh).
