PCB reveals pick order for PSL 8 draft

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), on Monday, revealed the pick order for the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL 8) draft. According to the details, the title defender, Lahore Qalandars, will make the first pick.

The second pick goes to Quetta Gladiators, who won the 2019 edition of the PSL, while Multan Sultans, the winners of PSL 2021, will have the third pick.

Karachi Kings, who lifted the PSL trophy in 2020, and Islamabad United, who are the most successful side of the PSL, will have the fourth and fifth picks, respectively.

The winners of the maiden edition of the marquee league, the Peshawar Zalmi, will have the last pick. The rest of the 17 rounds will be decided through a unique statistic tool. Also, the board will reveal further details regarding the PSL 8 draft in a short course.

According to Usman Wahla, who is the director of HBL PSL 8,

“We have set small milestones for our flagship event, and Pick Order for HBL PSL 2023 was one of the targets. This has set the tone for this year’s Player Draft, as the teams will now have absolute clarity on their turn and how they will make the best use of their chances to pick players for one of the most gruelling and fiercely-contested leagues.

“Player Registration window for foreign players is also open, and we are receiving encouraging responses, which is a testament to the reputation of the HBL PSL and how much the top players want to be part of it.

“Next year’s event will be staged at four venues – Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi and Multan – and we are working extremely hard to not only deliver this event according to its stature and reputation but also introduce a few initiatives to make the event more spectator-friendly.”
