PCB opens up on Mohammad Amir’s comeback

In a surprising turn of events on Sunday, Pakistani pacer Mohammad Amir announced taking his international retirement back. As the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 looms, the bowler has made himself available for selection.

The decision has come as a shock to many. Amir, who retired in December 2020 after developing a rift with then PCB management, says that the board has ‘respectfully’ requested him to reconsider his decision.

Mohsin Naqvi talks about Amir’s comeback

The PCB has also talked about Amir’s comeback. Mohsin Naqvi, the recently-elected chairman of the board, says that the selection committee will decide Amir’s future with Pakitan Cricket.

“The selection committee will decide Mohammad Amir’s future for Pakistan cricket,” Naqvi said in a presser.

It is pertinent to mention that after the World Cup 2023, Wahab Riaz was named the chief selector of the men’s national team. However, according to recent updates, the selection committee led by Wahab was dismissed on Sunday morning.

A new committee was formed including seven members. Former cricketers Mohammad Yousuf, Wahab Riaz, Abdul Razzaq and Asad Shafiq are to name a few. Notably, there will be no chairman of the selection committee.

As far as Amir’s comeback is concerned, he says that he has put his ‘personal choices’ aside, and has reconsidered decisions just ‘for the country. As the T20 World Cup 2024 is over the horizon, it is yet to be seen if Amir will prove his mettle.
