Pak vs Ind: Good news for India
  • Shubman Gill’s comeback “99 available” for ICC World Cup 2023 match against Pakistan.
  • Gill’s early return and net sessions signal strong intent to contribute to India’s campaign.
  • His presence in the lineup adds strength to India’s top-order batting in the crucial encounter.

Ahead of the ICC World Cup 2023 clash against Pakistan in Ahmedabad, India’s opening batsman Shubman Gill is on the verge of making a comeback to the team, and the news comes directly from Indian skipper Rohit Sharma. Gill’s availability, as confirmed by Rohit, stands at a promising “99.”

This development is a positive sign for the Indian team, which is looking to regain its first-choice lineup after dealing with disruptions during the World Cup. Gill had been sidelined due to dengue fever, forcing him to miss crucial matches against Australia and Afghanistan, although India managed to secure victories in both games.

Notably, Gill had arrived in Ahmedabad ahead of the rest of the team and had been actively participating in net sessions on Thursday and Friday. His early return and preparations indicate his strong desire to contribute to India’s World Cup campaign.

During Gill’s absence, Ishan Kishan filled the opening role alongside Rohit Sharma. In the challenging chase against Afghanistan, India had faced a perilous situation with the score at 2 for 3, as Kishan, Rohit, and Shreyas Iyer were dismissed without contributing to the scoreboard.

However, the team displayed remarkable resilience, ultimately achieving the target with six wickets in hand and 52 balls to spare. The opening combination of Rohit and Kishan, retained for the Afghanistan match, witnessed a significant improvement in performance. Rohit played a sensational innings, scoring 131 off just 84 balls, while Kishan contributed a steady 47 runs, leading India to an eight-wicket victory.

Shubman Gill’s return to the team would provide India with added strength at the top of the batting order. Gill has been an outstanding performer in ODIs this year, topping the charts with 1230 runs at an impressive average of 72.35 and a strike rate of 105.03. In his last four ODIs, he recorded two centuries and a half-century, showcasing his prowess as a top-order batsman. His potential inclusion in the XI against Pakistan would be a significant boost for India’s World Cup aspirations.
