Mohsin Naqvi's next move will shock Pakistan Cricket world

In a bold move to cleanse the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) of political influence, Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has embarked on a mission to depoliticize the board. Naqvi’s vision entails the removal of individuals whose appointments were politically motivated or influenced, ensuring meritocracy prevails in the organization. As part of this initiative, Naqvi has initiated a thorough review of salaries, positions, and educational backgrounds of board employees, aiming to weed out any instances of nepotism or favouritism.

Since assuming office as PCB chairman, Naqvi has wasted no time in implementing reforms. Among the notable changes, star cricketer Babar Azam has been reinstated as the national team’s captain for limited-overs cricket, replacing Shaheen Shah Afridi in T20 Internationals. Additionally, Naqvi has announced ambitious plans for the renovation of three major stadiums in Pakistan ahead of the prestigious Champions Trophy 2025.

Furthermore, Naqvi’s tenure has witnessed the return of Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim from retirement, injecting experience and talent back into the Pakistani squad. The national team’s training regime has also seen a revamp, with participation in the Kakul camp under the supervision of the army, signalling a commitment to excellence and discipline.

In a significant structural change, Naqvi has disbanded the role of chief selector held by Wahab Riaz, opting instead for a seven-member selection committee sans a designated chairperson. This move aims to distribute responsibility and foster collective decision-making within the selection process, ensuring transparency and fairness.

Under Naqvi’s leadership, PCB is undergoing a transformation aimed at elevating Pakistan cricket to new heights while upholding principles of integrity and professionalism. As the board gears up for future challenges and competitions, Naqvi’s vision for a politics-free and merit-based organization promises a brighter future for Pakistani cricket.
