According to the recent developments in cricket, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has decided to shift Asia Cup 2022 from Sri Lanka to the United Arab Emirates, undertaking the current crisis in the island nation.
Reportedly, the ACC has held conversations with the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) in regard. As a result of the meeting, there are possibilities that the event might be shifted from Sri Lanka amidst the country’s economic and political surge.
However, the Island nation has successfully hosted Australia for two tests, as many t20Is, and five ODIs and is currently embracing Pakistan Cricket Team for a two-match test series. On the one hand, where current circumstances diminish Sri Lanka’s chances of hosting the Asia Cup 2022, hosting teams on a successful note can increase their chances too.
Cleaning more on the stance, with their President apparently resigning and being replaced by a new one in the last few days, the political climate there has drastically changed.
It must be noted that Pak vs SL 2nd Test has been shifted from Colombo to Galle amidst the mentioned reason. Faisal Hasnain, the CEO of the Pakistan Cricket Board, has narrated that Pakistan wants Sri Lanka to host Asia Cup 2022 so the country can be out of the crisis.
Asia Cup last happened in 2018 when Rohit Sharma and co lifted the trophy against Bangladesh. The upcoming edition is now scheduled to take place between August and September this year.
