Right then! That's all from this game! Melbourne Stars have given their chances of qualifying for the playoffs a massive boost with this big win while the Strikers have been poor and need to up their game big time in their next game. On Saturday, 16th January 2021, Sydney Sixers go up against Perth Scorchers. That match will begin at 1840 local (0740 GMT). Join us for that. Until then, cheers and take care.
Andre Fletcher is named the Man of the Match. He says that this innings means a lot and he is happy with it. Adds that the coach gave him good advice and it paid off. Mentions that he dedicates this fifty to his uncle who passed away recently. Fletcher says that the batting coach keeps on motivating him and it helps him a lot in his batting. Fletcher further says that this is his first time at the MCG and he is pleased to perform well.
Earlier in the game, Andre Fletcher roared back to form with a majestic 89. He was helped by Hilton Cartwright and they scored 67 runs in the final 4 overs to help the Stars reach 179 on the board. The bowling from the Strikers was good at the start but they crumbled big time as they proved to be expensive in the final 10 overs. In the end, the target of 180 proved to be a monumental task for Alex Carey's men.
The bowling from the Stars was top notch! Zahir Khan started it all with the wicket of Philip Salt and then Maxwell got into the game with the wickets of Alex Carey and Jonathan Wells. But, it was Adam Zampa who stole the show as so often he does for the Stars. He picked up a five-fer, including three in a single over to give no chance to the Strikers. He was simply superb and he was well supported by the others as well.
Adelaide Strikers never showed up with the bat! They will be terribly disappointed with their performance. Alex Carey came out to open but the move did not work as he fell cheaply while Salt did not have a good game. There were no partnerships whatsoever as they lost their wickets in a heap and were bowled out for just 68. No one showed the fight to stay out there and they collapsed big time in this game. They have taken a real beating in this game and would want to come back stronger in the next.
What a hammering that Melbourne Stars have given Adelaide Strikers. They have won by 111 runs and given their net run rate a massive boost with this win. They have been simply brilliant with the ball, led by Adam Zampa. Adelaide Strikers, well what to say about them. They were in the game only in the first 10 overs when they were bowling but since then, it has been all Melbourne Stars.
