Saturday, 19th June, 2021, sees the final double header in the league stage of the 2021 Pakistan Super League. Quetta and Karachi clash in the evening game, at 5 pm local (1300 GMT) while at 10 pm local (1800 GMT), Islamabad United meet Multan Sultans, which we believe is more of a position confirmer for the latter, rather than a game to stay alive in the competition. Join us for both the clashes. Until then, ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
Right-o. Lahore Qalandars have hit themselves on the foot with this batting display. They drop down to fourth but will have to wait for Saturday's match between Quetta Gladiators and Karachi Kings. A win for Karachi would knock the Qalandars out. Multan Sultans are second for now, taking Peshawar Zalmi through to the playoffs. They themselves are almost through as well, but a highly complex mathematical calculation can perhaps prevent their entry and hence, we have to wait till the league stage ends. The good thing for them is - their fate is in their own hands.
Victorious Multan Sultans captain, MOHAMMAD RIZWAN, says that he is satisfied with this win, as it came through a team effort. Praises Sohaib Maqsood first and then Sohail Tanvir for changing the momentum in the final over of the first innings and later, a commanding team performance with the ball. Stresses that before the match, the stress is to play it by the moment and then leave it to the performance on the field.
SHAHNAWAZ DHANI HAS BEEN NAMED AS THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH. He is given the maroon cap as well, which indicates that he is the leading wicket taker of this edition. Says that he is definitely enjoying his form and hopes that he continues in the same manner. Is proud of the fact that he is the current leading wicket taker of the competition and hopes to take his team into the final. Relishes his experience of playing with superstars of Pakistan. Dedicates his award to his coaches Azhar Mahmood, Andy Flower and the entire supporters from Lahore.
Lahore Qalandars skipper, Sohail Akhtar, says that there was some moisture in the wicket, hence the reason to chase, but laments the poor batting effort. On Ben Dunk's promotion to open, Akhtar says that Dunk himself wished to open and looking at his experience, the management agreed but it did not work out. Does not want to look too much into the final over of the first innings where Sohail Tanvir changed the complexion of the game and maintains that his bowlers have bowled well throughout the competition.
... THE PRESENTATION ...
Earlier in the evening, Multan did not actually start well but hung in there, through Sohaib Maqsood. His innings of 60 from 40 balls gave the side plenty of confidence and his stand of 63 in 42 balls with Rilee Rossouw for the fourth wicket pushed Lahore Qalandars back. However, the latter did come back strongly, only to let it slip in the final over. Please stay tuned for the presentation...
Another chase, another farce. And this one was self-inflicted, with Lahore opting to field. Their bowlers actually did well in the first half, but one bad last over, shifted the momentum. Then with the bat, no one turned up and they could not even get to a 100. 22 was the highest individual score in a batting line-up which had 5 single-digit scores. This insipid batting has got them into a lot of trouble.
What a drubbing. First, a momentum shift in the final over of the first innings and then, a commanding performance with the ball. Lahore Qalandars have been really poor this season while chasing and Multan Sultans have just rubbed salt on their wounds. Except Sohail Tanvir, every bowler got a wicket but it was a stunning team effort. Imran Khan started the rut, dismissing Ben Dunk, but then Shahnawaz Dhani just ran through the middle order. The duo shared 7 wickets with combined figures of 7.1-1-29-7.
