Match 14, Coimbatore, July 15, 2024, 07:15 PM

Match Abandoned

Commentry
That’s it then, just the 32 legal balls is what we could witness in this game as the rain kept arriving and in the end, decided to play spoilsport. Both sides share a point each. TNPL action continues on July 16, Tuesday. Lyca Kovai Kings will be taking on Trichy Grand Cholas. That game will begin at 7.15 pm IST (1.45 pm GMT). Till then, goodbye and take care.
UPDATE - 10.51 pm IST (5.21 pm GMT) - IT'S OFFICIAL! THE MATCH HAS BEEN CALLED OFF DUE TO RAIN! Handshakes all around as persistent rain has resulted in the match ending in a no result. Both teams will take a point each from this encounter. As a result, Siechem Madurai Panthers who were at the bottom before the start of the game, have climbed to 5th in the standings while Nellai Royal Kings have leapt a couple of places to go to 2nd in the standings.
UPDATE - 10.44 pm IST (5.14 pm GMT) - Live visuals show the ground staff sitting near the edge of the covers placed on the square. While it is still raining, the two on-field umpires are out for a chat with the chief of the ground staff. It looks like we will be getting an official update soon regarding the future of this game, as Arun Karthik and Hari Nishaanth have made their way out to the middle. Uh oh, the two captains are shaking hands, and we might be done for the night. We are waiting for official confirmation though. Stay tuned.
UPDATE - 10.26 pm IST (4.56 pm GMT) - The rain continues to fall and the covers are still in place! The chances of this game resuming are reducing with each passing minute. The good thing is, the drainage is good and as soon as the rain stops, we can get back on.
UPDATE - 10.04 pm IST (4.34 pm GMT) - While we wait for the rain to relent in Coimbatore, you can switch tabs and follow the action from the Lanka Premier League, where Galle have been rolled over for 138. In reply, Colombo are currently 32/1 at the end of 3 overs, with Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Muhammad Waseem out in the middle. Mind you, Galle are already through to the playoffs, as are Jaffna, and if Colombo do get over the line here, they will be the third team to make it to the playoffs. It will then leave Kandy and Dambulla jostling for the last remaining playoff spot.
UPDATE - 9.45 pm IST (4.15 pm GMT) - We are off again! This is frustrating but it has been that kind of a night so far! The umpires have tried their level best to keep them out but the intensity of the rain has gone up. They need to come off again.

Arun Karthik is really struggling between the wickets! Short and angling in, on middle, NS Harish employs the short-arm jab and hits it through square leg for a couple of runs as Karthik limps to make his ground at the bowling end.

In the air....but safe! Alexander comes from over the wicket for the left-hander and dishes it out on a hard length, outside off, NS Harish makes room for himself to go up and over on the off side. Slices it off the outer half of the bat over backward point for a couple of runs.

Gurjapneet Singh 3/2(2)
OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Gurjapneet Singh strikes on the first ball after the break! Gurjapneet steams in from over the wicket and pitches it up, angling across the batter, Ajitesh G gets on the front foot to cover the line of the ball but plays inside the line of the ball. The ball nips away off the deck, catches the outside edge and the keeper, Suresh Lokeshwar dives low to his right to take a safe catch. So the rain gets the better of Ajitesh, who was getting constantly disturbed, departing for 12 (12). Nellai Royal Kings are 19/2 at the end of 4 overs. Once again, the lanky fast bowler is proving the worth of his height.
