The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have entered their name in the record books of the Indian Premier League (IPL) after setting the stage ablaze with their fiery batting performance. Facing off against the Delhi Capitals, the scored a massive 272 on the loss of seven wickets which shattered multiple records.
While KKR were unable to surpass Sunrisers Hyderabad’s record of the highest total, yet, they now have the second-highest team total in the league’s history. Earlier in the season, SRH posted 277 against the Mumbai Indians, which not only became the highest team total of the season but also the highest in the league’s history.
In IPL 2013, the Royal Challengers Bangalore scored 263 against the Pune Warriors. It remained a record until SRH entered the annals. A decade later, only Lucknow Super Giants came closer to RCB’s record adding 256 in 2023.
KKR players also enter the record books
Similarly, KKR’s 272 is not only the second-highest in IPL history but also in the ongoing season. KKR’s batting show included massive contributions from Sunil Narine who slammed a 39-ball 85, which is now the highest individual score of IPL 2024.
All KKR batters were in red-hot form as they managed to win the third consecutive game boosting their NRR and position on the table. Winning by a decent margin of 106 against the DC, they now top the table with six points.
It is pertinent to mention that it has happened first time in the 17-year-old rich history of IPL that KKR have won the first three games of the tournament. They are now scheduled to play Chennai Super Kings on April 8.
