IPL 2022 to generate very hefty revenue for BCCI

  • BCCI to generate a revenue of INR 800 Crore from IPL 2022
  • IPL has never generated such a hefty amount in the last 15 years
  • The great revenue is due to the new title sponsor and other sponsorships
  • Addition of two new IPL teams leading to 70 matches in the tournament will also play a great role in maximizing the revenue

The Indian Premier League (IPL 2022) will generate very hefty revenue for the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) this time. The record-breaking amount will touch approx INR 800 Crore, most in the 15-year old history of the cash-rich league. The IPL, a renowned brand owned by the world’s richest board, is followed by billions of cricket fans. There is a certain reason why players across the world give up their national duties to play the league, earning some extra pounds and fame.

In the last 15 years, the IPL has not generated such massive revenues for the board. In recent times, the league has renewed its title sponsor from Vivo IPL to Tata IPL. The Tata company, alone, will make INR 335 Crore for BCCI every year. The deals with RuPay and Swaggy Instamart for INR 42 Crore and 44 Crore sequentially annually for central sponsorships have also been made.

Jay Shah denies revealing exact revenue BCCI will earn from IPL 2022

Not only this, but the nine renowned brands have been signed as sponsors for IPL 2022 along with two new associate sponsors. The BCCI secretary, Jay Shah, is overly excited to see such a huge revenue coming from a single season amidst the COVID outspread. He has denied disclosing the exact figures. The increase in the number of matches is playing a sole role in the revenue rising since two new teams, Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants have been added to the pre-existing eight-team panel. This is the first time since 2011 IPL will feature 10 teams.

With each team playing a total of 14 matches in the Robin round, a total of 70 matches will be played across Maharashtra’s major venues in a tenure of two months including three playoffs and a final. The league opener is scheduled to be played between Chennai Super Kings and the Kolkata Knight Riders. The tournament will begin on 26th March, a day before it was expected to begin, and will end on 29th March. It must be noted the stadiums for the playoffs and final are yet to be announced.
